  • 5 cones positioned around the net, top near the box
  • Player should pop-out or pop towards the ball to mimic getting open
  • Move the ball around the net, catch on the outside, turn, switch hands and pass on the outside
  • Move your feet to get ready to receive the ball
  • Run to the line you pass to
  • Quicker we move the ball the tougher the defense can recover
  • Receive the pass, one or two craddles, then make accurate pass
  • Variation: Use a long pole as a limbo GB, coach places ball, player drops their ball

10 Min Fumble Ground Ball Drill

This drill is a 2v2 that works on ball/man teamwork on ground balls, and helps offensive players to circle back or get to green space to make a quick pass to his teammate.

  • Start with two lines of guys in two different colors
  • Coach gently rolls out a ball and a 2v2 battle for the ball
  • As a player gains possession of the ball he is immediately jumped and double teamed by the two opposite players
  • This forces the ball carrier to run out of pressure through circling back or running to green space
  • The player then looks to pass to his teammate

  • Have 2 goalies and 2 nets
  • You will have a total of 7 guys on one side of the field clearing the ball, and 3 guys on the other side of the field ready to play defense.
  • On field side 1 Have 3 defenders, 3 middies, in the crease
  • Goalie calls clear and players break out
  • Players clear the ball to the middies, the middies carry it over the mid line and must play 3 on 3 with the defenders on the other side of the field
  • The 3 middies rotate off and 3 new middies rotate on.
10 Min 5 Man Clear into 3v2

Teaches clearing the ball and transitions into 3v2

  • Need 5 players and a goalie
  • Setup 3 cones near the midfield line, 2 at the hash marks 1 in the center
  • 2 Players are at the hash mark at GLE, 3 players are on the cones up top.
  • Goalie clears to a GLE side, then pass to hash midfield side, then the middle
  • As soon as the ball is in the middle, the drill turns into 3v2
  • Midfield players play on offense vs 2 defenders
  • Variation: Have the defense clearing redirect it via a 40 yard pass across the field or back to the goalie

10 Min Defensive Sets and call outs
10 Min Tap The Hat

A good 1v1 or up to 3v3 drill to teach a kid how to approach a running offensive player.

  • You put a cone in the middle of the box
  • Put a line of kids at the top of the box
  • Put a line behind the cage
  • The person behind the cage throws the ball to the player at the top of the box
  • The person who threw the ball goes and plays defense on the person he just threw the ball to, but first he must tap the hat (cone)
  • You can make this 1v1 to start and move it to 3v3
