Time Drill
5 Min Active Stretching
5 Min Lineups and Extra Effort
  • Dax to middie
  • Cameron to attack
  • Middie 3 needs to be a powerful defensive unit
10 Min Buckeye Ground Ball
  • Drill teaches kids to scoop the ball on the run and make two quick passes (Ground Ball - Pass - Pass)
  • Teaches kids to get a proper angle as an adjacent for receiving a pass

Drill

  • Make 3 lines of kids with the outside lines being 10 yards apart
  • Put the balls in the middle with two goalies to the outside of the outside lines
  • Roll a ball out, have the middle guy scoop it up, pick a side to throw to, and then throw to the other guy
  • Last guy with the ball circles or question mark and then passes to a goalie and we repeat
  • Have some confusion in the middle and run continual
  • Variation: Add a chaser for the 2nd and 3rd pass

10 Min 5 Man Clear into 3v2

Teaches clearing the ball and transitions into 3v2

  • Need 5 players and a goalie
  • Setup 3 cones near the midfield line, 2 at the hash marks 1 in the center
  • 2 Players are at the hash mark at GLE, 3 players are on the cones up top.
  • Goalie clears to a GLE side, then pass to hash midfield side, then the middle
  • As soon as the ball is in the middle, the drill turns into 3v2
  • Midfield players play on offense vs 2 defenders
  • Variation: Have the defense clearing redirect it via a 40 yard pass across the field or back to the goalie

5 Min Water
10 Min Bucket 1 on 1 Drill

This drill teaches a defender how to properly push their man out of the shooting zone

  • Defense drop their sticks and use stubs or no sticks
  • Place a ball bucket on the field
  • Have an offensive and defensive line
  • Offense line starts with the ball about 5-10 yards from the bucket
  • Defense must use their feet and push the offensive guy out of the zone
  • Offense scores by getting the ball into the bucket

10 Min 2 Man Game Drill
  • Divide your team into two color groups, have two lines 10 feet above the box line. Put a goalie in the net.
  • 4 total players come out, 2 from each line, 1 group is offense the other is defense. Players rotate within their own group
  • The play starts when one guy passes to the next
  • Try to get on different planes before setting the pick a low guy should be at a 45 degree angle
  • Guy with the ball goes down low and wide, passes to the other guy in the middle, goes and sets pick
  • The goal of the drill is to have the two offensive players set picks and rolls for each other
  • Player receiving the ball stutters before the pick runs off the pick and towards the goal, looking at the slip man
  • Guy setting the pick (slip man) turns into the shooter and mirrors him
  • Run with the shooter shooting, and then run passing to the slip man in the pick and roll
  • Variation: Work on a pass down pick down
  • Variation: Slip man can replace the guy driving or can set a re-pick
  • Defense: Work on talking, calling out picks (left or right), forcing a man to one side of the field, and calling switches

5 Min Water
10 Min Stations: Defense and Offense

Station 1: Offensive Play Walkthrough

  • Offense goes through the plays (yellow, red, potato, boxer)

Station 2: Defense

Alley Defensive Drill

Focus on lift checks, v-checks, push with bottom hand

  • Setup 2 stations of 10 cones in a zig zag pattern
  • Each cone placement should be about 10-15 yards apart
  • One defensemen and one offense run the zig zag
  • Offense works on dodges, defense works on footwork
  • Defense shadows punches with the bottom hand and drop steps
  • Players run through station 1, switch roles and then go back through station 2

5 Min Water
10 Min Clears and Rides
10 Min 3 on 3 Midfield Lock On Drill

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV9FYV_jXnc

A great drill to work on when your middies fail to get to the midline and ride against clearing middies. This teaches them to run back to the midline and then lock on their man, when a pass is made, the must get back to the hole and recover.

  • Put a goalie in the goal
  • The drill starts at the midfield line
  • The coach starts at the midline with the balls
  • The defense midfielders must stay with their man, while the offensive midfields look to get open for a pass from the coach
  • When the ball is passed the 3 offense guys run to the goal and the defensive guy runs to defend. The defensive guys must make sure they recover properly to the hole.
  • Keep score with a whiteboard
  • Flag motion 1-2 seconds straight then move towards the end lines
  • Maverick - middie cuts back to the end line and turn to the outside as its least likely to get doubled
  • Pinch - if the defensive player is running up the side, the middie clears through but staying onside (keeping the way clear)
  • Deep - the two middies run deep and the goalie tries to hit them

10 Min John Hopkins Drill
