Salisbury Beckman Bucket Shooting Drill

Salisbury Beckman Bucket Drill
  • No goalie and line kids up a little behind GLE about 10 yards out on either side of the goal
  • Put two buckets about 2 yards apart in front of the goal 10 yards out
  • Put balls at the feet of each line
  • Kid runs from one line in (1) an arc towards to first bucket and receives a pass (2)
  • He then steps past the 2nd bucket and shoots on the run to the opposite triangle in the goals netting (4)
  • The player at (3) awaits to run towards the next bucket and shoots with the outside hand

Station 2: 3 on 3 Midfield Lock On Drill

3 on 3 Midfield Lock On Drill

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV9FYV_jXnc

A great drill to work on when your middies fail to get to the midline and ride against clearing middies. This teaches them to run back to the midline and then lock on their man, when a pass is made, the must get back to the hole and recover.

  • Put a goalie in the goal
  • The drill starts at the midfield line
  • The coach starts at the midline with the balls
  • The defense midfielders must stay with their man, while the offensive midfields look to get open for a pass from the coach
  • When the ball is passed the 3 offense guys run to the goal and the defensive guy runs to defend. The defensive guys must make sure they recover properly to the hole.
  • Keep score with a whiteboard
  • Flag motion 1-2 seconds straight then move towards the end lines
  • Maverick - middie cuts back to the end line and turn to the outside as its least likely to get doubled
  • Pinch - if the defensive player is running up the side, the middie clears through but staying onside (keeping the way clear)
  • Deep - the two middies run deep and the goalie tries to hit them

5 Min Water
20 Min 2 Stations with 8-10 kids per station

Station 1: Inside Feeding

Inside Feeding

  • Use either 9 players or 7 players.
  • Setup 4 or 3 cones about 10 yards apart
  • Put 4 or 3 guys on the cones and 4 or 3 guys in the middle of the cones
  • Put the odd numbered guy in the middle as X
  • Offense is on the cones, defense except for the X guy are in the middle (X guy is on offense)
  • Play for 1 minute. Offense gets 1 point for making a pass on the outside, 2 points to the guy in the middle
  • Keep score and switch the inside and outside guys

Station 2:

Ground Ball Train

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIOjTHxEJ3A

  • Line up all one one side of the field, need about 20 yards wide and width of a field
  • Idea is for kids to get alot of repetition with ground balls
  • 3 types of ground ball work, kids go back and forth across the field
  1. Roll ball to self, double move escape (face dodge, roll, split dodge) go to sideline and then to start the other way
  2. Start with ground ball at feet, kick with foot, hockey with stick, double move escape
  3. roll ball out accelerate through it

15 Min The 1-2-3 Drill

http://www.laxcoachmike.com/fullmembers/2010/12/article-coach-garber-1-2-3-get-game-ready/

The drill helps players prepare to be game ready. It forces a situation of a man advantage and makes the defense adjust to slide, recover, and fill.

  • Put a goalie in the net.
  • This is a 6v6 drill with 3 attack and 3 offensive middies, 3 defenders and 3 defensive middies
  • Give a number to each of the 3 defenders (1,2,3) and each of the defensive middies (1,2,3). Only the defensive players are given numbers
  • The drill begins with a GB or pass to an offensive player
  • Following a short period of play, the coach yells out a number for example "Middie 1"
  • The players need to think and react, if the player "Middie 1" is covering the ball, then he must exit the field through the box (or midfield) and either be replaced by another "middie 1" or run back onto the field
  • If "Middie 1" is is off ball, he must immediately leave his offensive player and double the ball.
  • This forces the defensive players to be ready as their roles change to slide, recover, and fill until we are at even strength
