Fast paced ground ball to transition drill emphasizing "GB - Pass - Pass"

  • Use a full field for transition play
  • Create 3 lines of kids at the end line behind the goal and outside the box
  • Create 2 lines of kids to be used as transition players (on the same side line of the field)
  • First line of transition players should be in between box and the mid line
  • Second line of transition players should be in between the box and the mid line at the other end of the field
  • Coach stands by the 3 lines of kids and gently rolls a ball out
  • X1, X2, X3 all fight for the ball (every man for themselves)
  • Whoever wins passes to the first line of transitions players and that man passes to the second line of transition players
  • Right away the two in the line that lost play again 1v1, the winner passes to the next transition
  • Finally the guy that lost twice, does it 1v0 and passes to the next transition
  • Each player rotates to the next line
  • Have the last transition player come down and place the ball near the coach


5 Min Face Off into a 4v4 or 5v4
  • The goal with this drill is to get a lot of reps from faceoffs and wing play
  • Make this drill competitive and keep score
  • Divide your kids equally into different colors, with attack, middies, and defense spread across both teams
  • Move your goals in for a shorter field and put 2 goalies in cage
  • Have 1 defense man and 1 attack man at each end of the field
  • Have 3 midfielders from each team at the midfield line
  • Do a faceoff whoever gains position takes the ball down and tries to score, if they don't score the opposite team has one chance to clear it. If after the clear there is no goal, then we re-face off
  • A variation is to add two attack per team so after the faceoff it turns into a 5v4 instead of 4v4

  • Break up into groups (man up and man down)
  • Most kids go manup with 3 middies and Def at man down
    • Owen, Wait, Michael = man down
15 Min Man Up vs Man Down
10 Min Offense with No D
  • Noke Offense Set
  • Explain how we are teaching them basic moves and want creativity
  • Area (1,2,3,4,5,6) - 4 top and 6 crease
  • Passer initiates the dodge by clearing through - 32, 53, 51, 35
  • 21
  • Two Man Game (Pick and Roll, Pick and Slip)
  • East/West - North/South
  • Feeding from X to cutters
